What is green ramp disaster?

The Green Ramp disaster occurred on March 23, 1994, at the Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina. During a routine training exercise, a United States Air Force C-130 cargo plane was preparing to drop a load of paratroopers when one of its engines failed. This caused the aircraft to lose control and crash into a waiting C-141 transport plane on the ground.

The impact caused a massive fireball that engulfed both aircraft and the paratroopers awaiting deployment on the ground. A total of 24 people were killed in the incident, with many more suffering serious injuries.

The Green Ramp disaster was one of the deadliest peacetime military aviation accidents in U.S. history. It led to improvements in safety protocols and procedures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. The event also highlighted the risks associated with military training exercises and the importance of maintaining high safety standards in all aspects of military operations.
